I just can't get used to the sweet flavored (and black, broad) Fried Kway Tiao a la Singapore. Back in Medan, Indonesia, the Kway Tiao was made of rice based flour and the texture is softer, narrower and more transparent. Hawkers there usually uses charcoal to fuel the fire, which claimed to contribute to the slightly burnt taste of the Fried Kway Tiao. To top it up, a serving of Fried Kway Tiao is fried with lup cheong (chinese sausage), prawn, eggs, vegies, beansprouts and roasted pork. It is just rich in flavor, in contrast to Singapore CKT which, I feel, is a bit bland.
So, amazing my (and my wife's) delight when I read about Penang Kitchen on ieatclub.com that claimed to sell authentic Penang foods, especially its Fried Kway Tiao, which in the picture, looks like Medan-styled Fried Kway Tiao. We're so gonna to try it out. And we did, today. I bought Penang Fried Kway Tiao, Prawn Noodle and Sago Gula Melaka. It was delicious! Really suit our taste bud. We're going there again this weekend, to try out their other dishes such as fried chicken and assam laksa. I'd say this place is recommended! *Drool-ing already*
